Shovels & Rope Earns Tops at the Americana Music Association

Once again, the Lowcountry’s favorite musical husband-wife duo of Cary Ann Hearst and Michael Trent, Shovels & Rope, are making those who can say “we knew them when”  proud.

On May 14, the Americana Music Association announced nominees for the 2013 Honors & Awards in Los Angeles at the Grammy Museum. Shovels & Rope led the pack with a total of four nominations for music from their 2012 album O’ Be Joyful, followed by Emmylou Harris and Buddy Miller, each with three nods under their belts.

The Americana Honors & Awards returns to the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tenn., on September 18 as part of the Americana Music Festival (taking place from September 18-22) with singer-songwriter Jim Lauderdale as host.

Seriously, just to be named in the same breath with some of their fellow nominees (listed below) is an unbelievable yet well-deserved honor. But I think we can all agree: they got this.
