Alabama Shakes Heads to North Charleston’s PAC in September

The North Charleston Performing Arts Center announced another cool late-summer concert. Athens, Alabama-based quartet Alabama Shakes is solid for a show at the PAC on Thurs. Sept. 19 at 8 p.m. with support from Tuscaloosa, Alabama-based quintet the Dexateens and Nashville-based band Majestico.

Formed in 2009, Alabama Shakes features singer/guitarist Brittany Howard, guitarist Heath Fogg, bassist Zac Cockrell, keyboard player Ben Tanner, and drummer Steve Johnson. The band’s 2012 breakthrough album Boys & Girls earned three Grammy Award nominations in 2013 for Best New Artist, Best Rock Performance (for the single “Hold On”), and Best Recording Package.

The band has enough bonafide soul and chops to hang with the likes of Booker T and the MG’s, as they did during PBS’s In Performance at the White House: Memphis Soul special taped at the White House in April.

Tickets for reserved seats go on sale for $35 on Fri. June 28 at 10 a.m. via the PAC box office, Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at (800) 745-3000, and online at ticketmaster.com.
